MTN PROJECT FAME WEST AFRICA 6.0 ENDS AS OLAWALE EMERGES WINNER.

The season finale of the just concluded MTN project fame West Africa 6.0 saw Olawale Ayodele Ojo, a 400 level Agronomy student of Ladoke Akintola University Ogbomoso, Oyo state emerge winner, with a cheque of five million naira, a brand new car and a recording contract. Runners up include Immaculate, Margaret and Niniola who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd runners up respectively.
I was rather unhappy with the audience’s poor reception when Margaret’s position was announced. Just because she isn’t Nigerian, does not mean we shouldn’t acknowledge her talent and potentials.

THE DIARY OF THE OTHER WOMAN EXCLUSIVE TO MELONYZBLOG

HERE IS THE FIRST PART TO THE SERIES

The diary of the other woman.
                                                One.
Friday, February 25, 2011.
21:56
Dear diary, my day…well I guess it turned out ok. I mean work was hectic as usual and Mrs. Nedo on my neck as usual... with her little high pitched voice she uses when she’s trying to get me to do something that isn’t exactly work related but I don’t have any choice doing because she is my boss. And the worst part is she thinks she is so… nice comparing herself with Mr. Maiza the cordinator of the heads of departments. Anyway now to the highlight of the day… Well I wouldn’t exactly call it that, since it happened in the evening.
I stopped by Tantalizers to eat because well I knew there wouldn’t be food in the house, I mean you can’t have Chioma as a roomie and still expect to have morning leftover food still in the refrigerator when you get back. So anyway, remember that office dinner I told you about? you know the one that happened about two months ago?? Yes that one, well, as I was on my way out, after eating, I met this guy said his name was Tony. He didn’t actually know my name, he just recognised me from the dinner, and apparently he had been longing to meet me again. He said I was kind of busy that day (all thanks to madam high tone). Anyway we talked for a little while till I got to my bus stop, he dropped me there and mehn! Am I glad?!! I could really use the cash. So anyway and that was that. He just said “ok…so see you around”, he didn’t ask for my number which was kind of odd, plus he doesn’t exactly know where I live, but anyway…Yawns! I’ve got to sleep now had a really long day (rolling my eyes)…thank God it’s FRIDAY!!! Goodnight.

Saturday, February 26th 2011.
11:45am
So I just finished my Saturday morning chores. Nothing else to do really… well not exactly I still have to finish up my next weekend’s “Ask Amanda column”. It used to be called “talk to Nedo” but when she got promoted, the workload was too much, she barely had time. Anyways after covering for so long, the reviews were good so it became “Ask Amanda” instead. It appears there are a lot of people in this country with issues.
Here’s one
“Hey Amanda, love your column, see I have this problem… I like two guys. One is rich and responsible, he is from my tribe too (family approved) and the other is comfortable not as rich as the other guy but he is not from my tribe so not family approved, but he is the guy I really like, what should I do? I mean, they are both proposing marriage?”
                                                                             Anonymous.
Well at least she has a personal life… look at me diary, I’ve not had a boyfriend since I can remember, with my parents always trying to fix me up with some guy… it’s just work, work and more work...Thank God INSIGHT is a weekly magazine. I don’t know what I’d do if I was working in a newspaper company.
You know what diary; I think I’m going to go to that wedding, you know, the one Vicky invited me to. Yeah that one that I have absolutely no idea whose wedding it is. I’ve decided to put myself out there, I mean I’m not going to find my Mister Right just sitting in this house giving anonymous lady advice on whom to marry.

12:10
Wow I really should start getting ready if I’m going to that wedding and of course call Vicky. I’m hungry! I haven’t even had breakfast. Ok! Got to go…write on you later.
23:55
Dee Dee I had a blast!!! The wedding was wonderful! I mean the reception… Rice and stew very plenty… but important of all was everything was so beautiful, the bride, the groom, the arena, I started thinking about wanting to get married myself; yeah you know how weddings are? I’m sure my mum would be glad to read that.
Also yours truly, moi, gave a few digits myself…hmm don’t you see the silver lining? I thought I saw Tony or someone that looked like him… I guess I’ve been thinking about him a lot lately that I’m beginning to see things…
My joints hurt! Really tired! After the wedding Vicky and I went on a little escapade of our own…all I can say is I had a blast! Oh I said that already! Anyway yawns! Got to sleep now. Goodnight.

Sunday, February 27th 2011.
14:38
Just had lunch. Saw Tony in church! Yep! Turns out we go to the same church. I knew he looked kind off familiar and this time he took my number. If I had attended my usual 6:30am mass, we would have missed each other, thanks to the wedding I woke up late today and couldn’t make it.
After mass as usual, was heading straight home, when he called my name. I saw him talking to a lady; she was lobbying him to join a society in the church… St. Vincent de Paul society… they are all about helping the poor and needy. We agreed to join together, he said to his friend and I quote ‘I’m only joining if you are’ and he was talking to me! Meeting is Sunday afternoon by 2:00pm, but I took today off. Still haven’t finished my Ask Amanda column plus I would just like to rest, you know stay indoors, somehow that sounds like so much fun right now. We talked for a little while longer before we went our separate ways. Ok, have work to do. Later.

ARE MUSICIANS THE ONLY TALENTED PEOPLE?

We get the whole competition between the telecommunications in Nigeria, but aren’t they going too far with this music thing? Why is all the money dedicated to just music? Even when it’s called a talent competition, a musician ends up winning. I love music, I’m just saying, the money should be channeled to other creative things. Why don’t we have any literary competition, or science competition, or art competition? Whatever happened to Bank PHB’s THE INTERN? Just because the bank may not have the capacity to sponsor the show anymore and need I emphasise ‘may’, doesn’t mean another bank can’t do something similar…or does it? Whatever happened to Amstel Malta Box Office? Or are we Nigerians only entertained by music? Just because these shows are aired in other countries all at once, doesn’t mean we should copy.

QUOTE OF THE DAY BY MARTIN LUTHER KING JNR

A NIGHT DEVOID OF STARS
Violence merely increases hate… adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.’

These were the strong words of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. I believe that this quote doesn’t only speak to physical violence, but to the feeling of ‘hate’. Only love can drive out hate, hate cannot. Repaying wickedness with wickedness will get us nowhere.  Let’s spread the love. Let’s try to put a smile in the faces of others in any little way we can. Let’s stop killing ourselves.  Let’s spread peace. Let us makes this world a better place to live.

A SHORT STORY - 'THE MAIL'

The mail.

After work, Ada returned home to find the mail at her doorstep. She picked it up while unlocking the door to her apartment. Just when she was about to open it, her mobile phone ranged, it was her fiancĂ©e Greg calling to check on her, they had just recently decided on their wedding month and were yet to make it public.
‘Hey wife! How does that sound honey’
Chuckling Ada replied ‘Awful! I’m thinking of reconsidering!
‘Aww c’mon you have to get used to it, you know’
‘Yeah, yeah’
‘Where are you now?’
‘At home, I just got back from the office’
‘So, have you had dinner?’
‘I just got back!’
‘Ok, ok’
‘I got a letter, today’,
‘A letter? From who?’
‘From aunty Nnenna’ she said surprised, now haven fully unfolded the letter.
‘A letter? Why would she send you a letter when she can just pick up the phone and call you’,
‘Yeah that’s what I was thinking, it’s kind of weird’
‘Well what does it say?’ Greg asked curiously
‘It says to come and see her urgently’
‘I hope everything’s ok’
‘Yeah me too’
‘Ok listen Hun, let me leave to rest and have dinner, I’ll call you later’
‘Ok, love you’
‘Love you more, bye’
The connection went off. Her mobile phone battery signaled low battery, she quickly plugged to charge, thankful that the electricity was on that night. She thought of calling her aunt but looking at the clock, she thought better of it, it was already 9:00pm, her aunt might be sleeping and Aunt Nnenna was an early sleeper. She yawned and remembering it was 9:00pm she wondered if she should eat first or shower first, she decided then to prepare dinner first, shower then eat because she would be too tired to shower after eating. She had left the office late that day, they had begun auditing the departments, it was usually hectic and took about a month, and all she could think of was what a long month it was going to be. She quickly made dinner, noodles… she was running out, and she just ate three out of the last six packs. She showered; oh the shower was needed and ate. She didn’t even make it to the bed; she slept right on the couch.
*    *    *
Ada woke up late the next morning, and everything she had to do to prepare for work was done in a hurry. She woke up in a hurry, showered in a hurry, ate in a hurry and left in a hurry.
She arrived the office at exactly 7:05am, she was five minutes late. The office was already buzzing with activities; the phones were ringing endlessly like they weren’t supposed to be picked up. She just settled in her cubicle in time before her own phone begun to ring.
It wasn’t until three pm that she realised she hadn’t had the chance to call her aunt. She quickly dialed her aunt’s number but she got the voice machine instead, telling her the number was switched off. She tried to remember the last time she had spoken to her aunt to discover it had been about three months ago…

RHYME OF THE DAY- A LOVE GONE COLD

This is the rhyme i wrote a while back for a friend who had asked me to make a rhyme with renaissance, reminisce, conscience and essence. So here it goes:
                                              A LOVE GONE COLD
I reminisce on the times that we had,
a renaissance of the love that we shared,
when trust was of the essence
and we both had conscience,
now our love has gone cold,
where did all that love go?

ABOUT FAITH

“To have faith is to be sure of things we hope for, to be certain of things we cannot see.”
                                                Hebrews 11 vs. 1.GNB
Since my childhood, I have discovered a lot of things. First of all, faith is what you believe in and not what your parents believe in. It is something you have to discover for and by yourself. This self discovery has to happen to everyone that wants to be a real Christian. You don’t just receive faith or accept it. You have faith.
Often times I have often question my faith, especially when it comes to praying. Why do we pray? Why do people pray? Even God asks us to pray. Mathew 7:7 says ask and we shall receive, seek and we shall find and knock and the door will be opened unto us. But what happens when we ask and ask for so long and not receive. We hear of the story in the bible of the woman who had the issue of blood for TWELVE years. She must have started praying as soon as she realized it wasn’t about to stop any time soon. Assuming she started praying a month after it had started, she prayed twelve months, one year, two years, five years up until twelve years before she was healed. Let’s try to put ourselves in her shoes, especially in this contemporary world where everything is moving fast and we want things done as quickly as possible. Would we still believe?
God’s time is the best. Sometimes I wonder why we can’t just know God’s time and pray then. But we just have to keep praying. Jesus encourages us to pray in Luke 18: 1-8 and even teaches us how to in Mathew 6: 9-13. It’s really hard to keep praying and the issue just stays and shows no sign of leaving. It’s worse when people talk about their healing miracles, job miracles makes you feel less of a Christian why your own prayers look like they are not being answered. Always remember just waking up in the morning is miracle enough, once there is life there is hope and really if you start to count your blessings you’ll discover just how blessed you are. God always answers prayers, His answer might be yes, no, not yet; I have something better for you.
I have come to the conclusion that
1.     Romans 9:20 says “but who are you to answer God back? A clay does pot not ask the man who made it, “Why did you make me like this? So you can’t actually question your situation but make the most of it.
2.    God cannot give you what you can’t handle.
3.    Gold has to be melted before it is carved.
4.    God wants to know his own, and trust you like he trusted Abraham and job.
If you are still an atheist, you are just being stubborn. Would you rather not believe in God and at the end find out there is God? Or believe in God and find out there is God? You have nothing to lose expect an irresponsible lifestyle.

ABOUT MY BLOG

When I decided to have a blog of my own, I always thought I knew what my blog was going to be about, but you see, as the days passed and I got to see other top blogs and might I add, making big bucks, I  wasn’t so sure anymore. I started to explore, looking for what most people would like to read about and would want to comment on. All that made me question why I wanted to own a blog in the instance.
I found, in the end, I needed to do what was important and follow my heart. My blog is still going to be about writing… partly. It will feature: stories as well as common issues of interest. Also if you have any story, contribution, poem etc, you can email me at chatwitmelony@hotmail.com
If you wish to advertise your product, your upcoming book or movie, contact me at chatwitmelony@hotmail.com
